Save us from ourselves!

I'm enjoying the posts in Nicola Twilley's series on Good called Food for Thinkers. It's been going on all week, and features almost 50 writers in diverse fields writing about why we should think about food. I'm really into the notion of having a Sputnik dinner party, for instance.

Oh, and I finally finished my year's reading list. The list is way shorter this year than in previous years, and also much more full of fiction than usual. Make of that what you will!

I've started posting about the horror movies I watch. I don't think there's something worth talking about with every movie, and I'm trying to avoid just rehashing the plot and saying whether I liked it or not. But I have entries about how Johnny Depp is a bimbo in Nightmare on Elm Street and one about the great design work in Thirteen Ghosts and one about the role of screaming in horror movies like REC. I hope you enjoy it!

I also added a link on the side asking people to consider donating money to the Toronto Assaulted Women's Helpline. This blog is an effort to think critically about the movies I love. Horror movies often have some serious flaws, especially regarding the treatment of women.
